Defending Yourself & Your Assets (Part 1: Resources)

In this post, I will outline some of the strategies I have picked up in my year of playing Kingdoms of Camelot.  Having good defensive strategies will make you a very tough target for other players.  Practising all of these strategies will help you retain your strength's, and can help keep you up in the rankings.

First things first, you want to protect your resources and your army.  There isn't much if any might gain from winning a battle.  When people attack you they either want your resources, or they want to kill off your army to knock down your might.

With that said, here are some things you can do to Protect Your Resources:

1)  Storehouse:  Build your storehouse up so it protects as much of your resources as possible.  Your storehouse will protect 100,000 times the current level of your storehouse.  So, if your storehouse is at a level 5 it will protect 500,000 food, 500,000 wood, 500,000 stone, and 500,000 ore.  Your storehouse is a great place to start when it comes to building some defence.
NOTE:  Your storehouse does not protect your gold.  It will only protect food, wood, stone, and ore.   See below for ways to protect your gold.

2)  Using Extra Resources:  Lets say your storehouse doesn't cover all of your resources.  When you get higher in might and start producing more this will more than likely be the case.  What can you do with your extra resources?  Why not use them?  Queue up some troops to train, or some wall/field defences.  That way you are getting use out of your resources instead of just handing them over to the enemy.

3)  Transporting/Reinforcing to Move Resources:  Transporting/Reinforcing will allow you to move your gold to another city where it will be safe.  Unlike, your other resources (food, wood, stone, ore) gold is not protected by your storehouse.  Transporting and reinforcing can also come in handy in some situations when you may not be able to use all or any of your unprotected resources to train or build because you are already building and/or your training queues are filled.  Have no fear, this is when you want to use your troops by transporting or reinforcing to move your unprotected resources to either one of your cities which isn't under attack or to a friends city (friends city must be in your alliance to allow a transport/reinforcement).

First try transporting your goods.  You can do so manually, by entering the cities coordinates into your Rally Point, under the "March Troops" tab.  Make sure you select "Transport" from the drop down menu at the top of the March form.  Then select your  supply troops and/or wagons, and enter in the extra resources that you want them to carry away.  You can also send a transport by clicking on your Map and clicking on the city you want to transport to, Select the blue Transport button, then select your troops and the resources you want to send.

In some cases you may not have enough supply troops and wagons to carry all of the resources you need to transport.  This is where Reinforcing comes in handy.  You send reinforcements just like you were going to transport to another city (either yours or another alliance members city).  Either through the Map or through your Rally Point, Select Reinforce this time instead of transport, then it will allow you to click all the troops you have available.  Select the amount of troops you need to carry all of the resources you need to move to the city, then select the resources you need to move.  Then select March, and all of your resources are on their way to a safer place.

When using Reinforce you will have to make sure you or your friend send your troops back home after they arrive at their destination.  If not they will remain in that city and eat up the food there as well.  You can call your troops back home inside your Rally Point.  Once inside Select the "Troop Movement" tab. You should then see all your troops that are Marching, Encamped, or Reinforcing.  Simply Select Recall for you troops that are at the other city.  They will come back home and leave the resources in the city they were sent to reinforce.

4)  Hiding Resources in Your Owned Wilderness:  Many people when getting attacked just hide all of their resources at an owned Wilderness of theirs.  You can do this by Reinforcing one of the Wildernesses that you already own with your unprotected resources.  The problem with this strategy is it became very common, and is expected by most experienced alliances.  So if war is the case, and that is the reason you are being attacked I would not suggest hiding gold and other unprotected resources in wilds.  Most experienced alliances will search the map for the wilds that are owned by your alliance prior to going to war.  Normally, after they send their attacks to your cities they will wait a few then send others to attack your wilds for hidden resources.

If you are not at war and it is just a random attack from another player, then this is still a solid strategy.  Your troops must stay on your wild until the attack is over though.  If you call them back before the attack hits your resources will reappear in the city, and will be taken if the battle is lost.  Unlike reinforcing another city when you reinforce a wild the resources will not stay on the wild.  So, you do not want to recall your troops until the attack has cleared to ensure the safety of your resources.

Another tip if this is something you would like to try.  When looking for wilds that you want to own do not stay close to your city.  When alliances check for your owned wildernesses they will normally search right around your cities.  So, if you conquer all your wildernesses over 30 clicks away from your city there is a smaller chance that other alliances will find them.  So, it will still give you the option to hide there in case all other strategies have failed.
